Charleston Area Medical Center is one of the largest hospital systems in West Virginia, offering thousands of families convenience and accessibility through three Charleston locations: General Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Women and Children's Hospital; and our Putnam County location, CAMC Teays Valley Hospital. With 956 licensed beds and nearly 7,000 employees, the medical staff at CAMC cares for a diverse patient population. Rural accident victims are flown to the hospital's Level I Trauma Center on HealthNet helicopters, and a high volume of open-heart procedures rank the hospital among the top 15 nationwide. CAMC is also home to the state's premier cancer treatment center, the state's only kidney transplant center, the region's largest and busiest Level III neonatal intensive care unit, a Level I pediatric intensive care unit, and the only freestanding children's hospital in West Virginia. As West Virginia's premiere medical teaching facility, CAMC prepares a variety of health care professionals to care for West Virginians. More than 700 physicians have admitting privileges at CAMC. Plus, CAMC is southern West Virginia's largest teaching hospital, hosting more than 500 students in programs leading to degrees or certifications in health professions. As a nonprofit institution, CAMC also ensures the health care of the state's most vulnerable residents and is the safety net hospital for southern West Virginia.
